GARDEN OF THE BIBLE PLANTS
St. Marienthal
Garden of the bible plants
The idea to create such a garden came from two young women who were completing a voluntary ecological year at the International Meeting Centre St. Marienthal. They planned a special “meeting place” on the site of the former pig run.
The Garden of Bible Plants was laid out in 1998 and 1999 by long-term unemployed women as part of a job creation scheme. Nature lovers can learn about the Bible here and visitors interested in Christianity can learn about the trees, bushes and plants from the time of the Bible. In this respect the garden is also an environmental and educational garden. On large boards there are the respective Bible quotations about the plants to be found in the Garden of Bible Plants. Inwinter, the frost-sensitive potted plants (e.g. fig tree, oleander, palm and olive tree) are taken to an orangery to spend the winter there without frost.
